The General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces has presented the implementation plan for the “Eastern Shield” project, according to which 200 kilometers of the border with Russia and Belarus will be placed under reinforced control by the end of 2026. The project involves creating a belt of fortifications, including concrete anti-tank barriers, the use of barbed wire, and engineering preparation of the terrain. In particular, the plan provides for the artificial waterlogging of certain areas and the restoration of peatlands to restrict vehicle mobility.

Beyond physical barriers, the strategy includes the technical and logistical isolation of border zones. Plans include the construction of seven communication base stations resistant to electronic warfare (EW) and preparations for the closure of 12 checkpoints. As part of the infrastructure, the deployment of modular hospitals to provide assistance to the civilian population is also planned. In total, these measures will cover approximately 38% of the eastern section of the border.
