As of early February 2026, bus services from Riga to Vitebsk are being discontinued; routes to Minsk cease starting February 26, and those to Gomel will end on June 27.
In October of last year, it was reported that Latvian authorities had imposed a one-year ban on irregular (excursion) passenger bus transport across the borders with Belarus and Russia.
Later, Latvia allowed for the possibility of canceling regular bus services as well — companies simply will not have their permits for regular passenger transport renewed.
