“Green Channel” Fails to Hide Contraband: Hashish Oil Seized at Brest Border

Published:

Brest Customs officers have intercepted yet another attempt to illegally transport narcotics across the border. The focus of the investigation fell on a 20-year-old passenger of a scheduled bus arriving in Belarus from Poland.

While undergoing customs control at the “Brest” checkpoint, the young man opted for the “green channel.” By doing so, he formally declared that he was not carrying any goods prohibited or restricted for import. However, the violator’s plans were exposed by a service dog; the canine handler noticed the animal’s keen interest in the traveler.

During a subsequent inspection of the man’s shoulder bag, customs officers discovered a glass vial filled with a dark green oily liquid. Forensic analysis confirmed that the contents were a narcotic substance—hashish oil (cannabis oil). The weight of the seized substance exceeded 17.5 grams.

A criminal case has been initiated against the detainee under Part 2 of Article 328-1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (“Illegal movement of narcotics across the EAEU customs border in large quantities”). The sanctions under this article carry a severe penalty — imprisonment for a term of up to 10 years.

⚠️Hashish oil is included in the state list of narcotic drugs, and any operations involving it without a special permit are criminally punishable. This substance contains a high concentration of psychoactive compounds and poses a serious danger to health. As a party to UN international conventions, Belarus strictly prohibits the import of this oil—even for personal use and even in minimal quantities.
