Employment to Nowhere: How 5,400 Migrants Fell Victim to a Single Gang

Published:

An international criminal group that helped more than 5,400 foreigners enter the EU illegally over the past four years has been dismantled in Poland. The gang consisted of three Poles and six Ukrainians. The scheme operated through the mass registration of fictitious employment declarations: the perpetrators created the appearance of hiring workers without actually having a business or any job openings. These forged documents allowed migrants to deceive consulates and obtain official visas to cross the border.

In addition to organizing illegal migration, investigators uncovered evidence of legalizing proceeds of crime, charging three members with money laundering. The group operated systematically and on a large scale, turning the visa process into a profitable assembly line. Now, the participants of this “business” face a serious final chapter—sentencing ranging from 8 to 15 years of imprisonment.
