“Many considered the move madness.” An immigrant from the USA about life in Belarus

Published:

Randy Martin is a native American and a happy father of three sons. He met his wife, Alesya, a Belarusian, almost twenty years ago — the girl moved to America on a fiancé visa. Now the entire family has relocated to Alesya’s homeland — in Belarus.

Easy access to drugs, genetically modified products, and a high crime rate in the USA forced the family to think seriously about the future for their children. Having sold their house, cars, and part of their property, Randy and Alesya made a difficult decision — to start a new life. With seven suitcases and a dog — to Vilnius, and from there — by bus to Minsk. There, according to the family members, Belarus greeted them with open arms.

Randy and Alesya built a house where they are now raising their sons, enjoying life, and have no thoughts of leaving — they are confident that it is here they can build the happy future they once could only dream of.

“I am impressed by how Belarus was able to go through difficult times, take the best from them, and stay sane. You know, the world is going crazy right now. So I’m just grateful that I was lucky enough to be here.”
